2019 OMR

CDS are working with the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to develop a digital strategy, a key element of which being digital infrastructure and a refresh of CDS’ Local Broadband Plan.

The Local Broadband Plan will direct the use and application of additional public funding to extend broadband coverage. Additional funding includes the use of Clawback sums from the Phase One contract delivered by BT as a result of increased take up of these services, Local Growth Deal Funding awarded by the LEP to CDS and rural Broadband Funding secured from DEFRA.

To ensure available funds are allocated to areas where there are no credible, identified commercial investment; and in turn deduce how much of the estimated 55,000 premises are set to already be covered by the private sector – we are commencing this new OMR process.

The review aims to establish existing and planned (next 3 years) commercial coverage of broadband services across the CDS area by existing and prospective infrastructure providers with a view to establishing a revised intervention area for potential future investment utilising available public funds. This OMR is intended as a precursor to a formal public consultation document and is considered best practice under the National Broadband Scheme 2016[1].
